Bengaluru, Oct 27 (UNI) The Kannada film Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, which created a major impact across Indian cinema, is set to release on OTT.
Prime Video, in an official statement, announced that the film will begin streaming on its platform from October 31. The film will be available to viewers in over 200 countries and regions.
The original version of the film is in Kannada, while dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam will also be released on the platform. However, the Hindi version will not be included in the initial digital release, and Hindi viewers will have to wait a few more days for its OTT premiere.
Produced by Hombale Films, the movie was released in theatres on October 2 during the Dasara festive season and has since seen excellent box office success. The film has reportedly collected around Rs 589.50 crore nett in India and has crossed Rs 800 crore worldwide.
Written, directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the film features Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram in important roles. Known for its visual appeal, spiritual narrative elements and emotional depth, the film has received strong audience appreciation.
Manish Menghani, Director and Head of Content Licensing at Prime Video India, said that Kantara has opened a new chapter in Indian cinema by showing how stories rooted in regional culture can find a global audience. He said the platform looks forward to presenting the film to viewers around the world from October 31.
Set against the backdrop of the Kadamba dynasty period, the film explores the origin of the sacred forest spirit Panjurli Daiva and portrays the conflict between nature, greed and divine power.
The movie has also been lauded for its authentic representation of the ‘Bhoota Kola’ tradition of coastal Karnataka.
With its release on the digital platform, the filmmakers aim to take the cultural, spiritual and visual narrative of Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 to an even wider global audience.
