Kamal Nath urges CM to pay back medical expenses of children

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath has written to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, urging the state government to immediately bear the full medical expenses of children affected by the alleged toxic cough syrup incident in Chhindwara. The tragic episode reportedly resulted in the deaths of several children while many others continue to undergo treatment.

In his letter, Kamal Nath stated that although the state government had initially announced that it would cover all treatment costs for the affected children, their families have yet to receive any financial support. He described the situation as deeply distressing, noting that families grieving the loss of children or struggling to save them should not be forced to wait for assistance that has already been publicly promised.

Kamal Nath further noted that many of the affected families in Chhindwara are facing severe financial hardship and are unable to bear the ongoing medical expenditures. He urged the Chief Minister to intervene without delay and direct the concerned departments to disburse the required funds promptly. According to him, ensuring immediate support would demonstrate the government’s sensitivity towards the victims and strengthen public trust in governance.

He emphasised that saving the lives of children and providing relief to their families must be treated as the government’s top priority, especially when the matter involves public health and safety.

Meanwhile, while talking to the media persons on Thursday Kamal Nath also commented on the broader political landscape, asserting that the Congress will not allow any form of electoral malpractice in upcoming elections. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he referred to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Purnia during the ongoing Bihar election campaign, where Gandhi alleged that the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly election was “stolen”.

Kamal Nath also shared a video of Rahul Gandhi’s speech in which Gandhi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of manipulating not only the Madhya Pradesh polls but also elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and in the Lok Sabha.

Appealing to Congress workers and citizens of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath called for vigilance in the voter registration and verification process. He stressed the importance of preventing the removal of genuine voters’ names and blocking the inclusion of fake voters. He said the Congress is fully prepared to counter conspiracy related to electoral fraud and is determined to protect the integrity of the democratic process.
