Justice Sanjiv Khanna appointed as new Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed Justice Sanjiv Khanna as the next Chief Justice of India.

Justice Khanna will take oath on November 11. He will be the 51st Chief Justice of India, succeeding the incumbent D.Y. Chandrachud, who will retire on November 10. Justice Chandrachud took charge on November 8, 2022.

Sharing the approval of Justice Khanna’s appointment in a social media post on X, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said, “In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the Hon’ble President, after consultation with the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, as Chief Justice of India with effect from 11th November 2024.”
