Kabul, Nov 3 (UNI) The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) today announced that Head Coach Jonathan Trott will step down after the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for February, bringing an end to a notable chapter in Afghanistan cricket.
Trott, who took charge of the national team in 2022, has been credited with helping Afghanistan achieve significant milestones, including historic victories against top-ranked teams and enhanced competitiveness on the global stage. His tenure saw some of the most memorable moments in recent Afghan cricket history.
ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf expressed gratitude to Trott, saying, “His dedication and professionalism supported a crucial period in the development of Afghanistan cricket, and we wish him every success in his future endeavors.”
ACB CEO Naseeb Khan added, “Jonathan has helped our players grow in confidence and compete against the world’s strongest sides. This transition is part of our long-term plan to take Afghanistan cricket to the next level.”
Trott also shared his appreciation for the team, stating, “It has been a privilege to work with the Afghanistan National Team. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and will always remain a supporter of Afghan cricket.”
The ACB will begin the process of appointing a new head coach after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2026.
