Jitu Patwari slams BJP over fertiliser shortage

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari launched a fierce attack on the ruling BJP government, alleging that the state’s farmers are being forced to wander from pillar to post in search of fertiliser. While the government repeatedly claims that there is no shortage, Patwari pointed out that BJP’s own MP Ganesh Singh has acknowledged the crisis in a letter, thereby exposing the government’s failures.

Patwari said that farmers across the state are standing in queues for hours, while small cultivators are deprived of fertiliser and big farmers and mafias, allegedly shielded by the BJP, receive priority. He added that the distribution system has collapsed and officials are turning a blind eye to farmers’ suffering.

Highlighting incidents from Rewa, Guna and Bhopal, Patwari described heart-wrenching scenes of farmers, including women, forced to wait in heavy rain or wade through waist-deep water for fertiliser, only to face police lathis when the situation turned tense. He remarked that such visuals prove the government is anti-farmer and pro-corporate.

The Congress leader accused the BJP of consistent corruption through scams involving fertiliser, seeds and crop insurance, alleging that the government’s priority is to protect mafias and fill leaders’ pockets rather than support cultivators.

Laying down Congress’s demands, Patwari called for immediate transparency in fertiliser distribution, strict action against mafias, and punishment for negligent officials. He warned that if the plight of farmers is ignored, Congress will be compelled to launch a large-scale agitation both on the streets and in the Assembly.
