Ahmedabad, March 8 (UNI) Jasprit Bumrah turned a personal heartbreak into history as he delivered a masterclass on home turf, guiding India to ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 glory over New Zealand. The fast bowler’s career-best figures in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium proved decisive, earning him the Player of the Match award. Bumrah finished with 4/15, a performance that left the opposition reeling.
Bumrah recalled the sting of a previous final at his home ground, saying, “I’ve played one final here before and couldn’t win that one, but this victory feels really special. Today, everything went as per plan, and I’m really happy and grateful.”
The pacer attributed his brilliance to mental clarity and experience. “Before this tournament, I felt I was trying too hard. In this format, I let the game come to me, prepared, read the situation, and believed in myself. That approach worked beautifully,” he said.
Bumrah’s meticulous execution on a flat pitch, combined with smart variations and keen reading of the opposition, made the difference. “Playing on these belters and observing how the other team bowls taught me when to change pace and be smart. Execution with clarity is key,” he explained.
He also lauded India’s bowling unit for their calm and collective effort. “Everyone was clear on their roles. Even in tight games, we stayed calm and held our nerve. That’s what wins tournaments,” he added.
The victory was made sweeter by a raucous home crowd. “The crowd was brilliant, supporting us throughout. It’s really special, and I’m thankful for all the support,” Bumrah said, signing off a career-defining day.
