Foz Do Iguacu, Apr 4 (UNI) India’s Abhinash Jamwal delivered a near-flawless performance to storm into the men’s 65kg final at the World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025, defeating Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga with a unanimous 5 -0 verdict here on Saturday.
The 22-year-old showcased tactical brilliance and agility, using his height advantage to stay out of Malanga’s striking range while landing clean counters. Four of the five judges scored a perfect 30 for the Indian, with all five unanimously awarding him the first and third rounds.
Malanga was pushed onto the back foot early on, facing a standing count in the opening round, a moment that decisively tilted the bout in Jamwal’s favour.
Jamwal will now face local favourite and Pan American Games bronze medallist, Yuri Reis, in the title clash.
Earlier on Thursday, Hitesh created history by becoming the first Indian to reach the final at the ongoing edition of the tournament, defeating French Olympian Makan Traore in the 70kg category. He is set to face England’s Odel Kamara in the final.
However, Manish Rathore’s campaign in the 55kg division came to an end in the semi-finals, where he was outclassed 5-0 by Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Altynbek.
The World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025, being held in Foz Do Iguacu, features over 130 boxers, including Olympians from 19 nations. India has fielded participants in all 10 men’s weight categories, while the competition includes both men’s and women’s events.
This meet is the first of three World Boxing Cups scheduled for the year, with Kazakhstan and India slated to host the next two legs in June-July and November, respectively. Ranking points earned in these events will determine qualification for the season-ending World Boxing Cup Finals.
