Jaiswal’s half century takes India to 176 for 6 at tea

Chennai, Sep 19 (UNI) Medium pacer Hasan Mahmud claimed four wickets while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a well crafted half century to carry India 176 for six at tea on the opening day of the first test against Bangladesh here on Thursday.

At the break, R Ashwin was batting on 21 (19 balls, 3×4) and Ravindra Jadeja on 7 (17 balls, 1×4).

Resuming at 88 for three at lunch, India soon lost Rishab Pant when Mahmud returned for the second spell and got rid of the left hander in his second over for his fourth wicket.

Pant, who scored 39 off 52 balls with six fours, went for a cut and edged to keeper Litton Das. He added 62 for the fourth wicket in 16.1 overs with Jaiswal, who trudged to make a fine half century, before he fell for 56 (118 balls, 9×4), edging to first slip off pacer Nahid Rana (144 for five).

India were in further trouble when K L Rahul, making a come back after injury, scored 16 in 52 balls, fell at the same score four balls later. He was beaten by a off break from Mehidy Hasan Miraz that drifted and turned and was held by Zakir Hasan at forward short leg.

However, Ashwin and Jadeja saw the team without further loss till tea.

India scored 88 in the first session and added another 88 between lunch and tea.
