Jairam Ramesh launches sharp attack on PM Modi after Rajya Sabha speech, Raises questions on China and ‘Op Sindoor’

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Friday mounted a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his speech in the Rajya Sabha, accusing him of evading key questions raised by the Opposition and remaining silent on sensitive foreign policy and national security issues.

In a strongly worded post on X, Ramesh criticised the Prime Minister’s nearly 97-minute address in the Upper House, describing it as deeply disappointing and evasive. “The PM revealed yet again last evening in the Rajya Sabha what a huge bundle of insecurities, what a perennial peddler of lies, what a storehouse of prejudices, and what a source of sheer bile and poison he is,” Ramesh said.

Taking a personal swipe, the Congress leader added, “One thing is clear. He can continue to proclaim that he is a great man. But the more he does so, it becomes more and more obvious that he is not and can never be a good man.” He further remarked that calling the Prime Minister’s speech “pathetic” would be an understatement, alleging that Modi was “a prisoner of his own pet hates.”

Ramesh also claimed that the Prime Minister failed to address substantive issues raised by the Leader of the Opposition during the Rajya Sabha debate. “He answered none of the serious questions raised by the LOP in the Rajya Sabha,” he said.

Linking domestic parliamentary debate with international developments, Ramesh questioned the Prime Minister’s silence over comments made by a “good friend in Washington DC,” an apparent reference to US President Donald Trump. Ramesh alleged that Trump was “fast moving to the century mark” of repeating claims that he had intervened to halt “Op Sindoor” on May 10, 2025.

“And yet the Prime Minister maintains his complete silence on this issue,” Ramesh said, drawing a parallel with what he described as Modi’s earlier silence on China.

He referred to the Prime Minister’s June 19, 2020 remarks following the Galwan Valley clash, when more than 20 Indian soldiers were killed in eastern Ladakh. Ramesh termed it the Prime Minister’s “infamous clean-chit to China.”

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, with sharp exchanges in both Houses of Parliament during debates on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. While the Prime Minister has defended his record on national security and foreign policy, the Opposition has repeatedly accused the government of avoiding accountability and parliamentary scrutiny.
