Jadeja accepts ODI snub, eyes 2027 World Cup

New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) Veteran allrounder Ravindra Jadeja today said he is taking his omission from India’s upcoming ODI series in Australia in his stride, appreciating the transparent communication from the team management, and reaffirmed his ambition to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“Selection is not in my hands. I want to play, for sure,” Jadeja said at a press conference after the second day’s play against West Indies here.

“The team management, selectors, coach, and captain have their reasons for not selecting me for this series. They communicated this to me, so it was not a surprise. I am happy about that. Whenever I get a chance next, I will try to do what I have done all these years. If I get a chance in the World Cup and perform well, it will be good for Indian cricket.”

Jadeja, who will turn 37 in December, retired from T20Is after winning the World Cup last year, but remains motivated by the dream of winning another World Cup with India. His omission was among five changes from the ODI squad that had won the Champions Trophy in the UAE in March. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had indicated that Jadeja remains part of India’s future ODI plans.

“Currently, taking two left-arm spinners to Australia is not possible. Jaddu is clearly in our scheme because of his quality, but there is competition for places. It is a short series, and we could carry only one left-arm spinner along with Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav,” Agarkar had said.

Jadeja has featured in 204 ODIs, scoring 2,806 runs and taking 231 wickets. In the Champions Trophy, his most recent ODI assignment, he claimed five wickets in five innings at an economy rate of 4.35.

India will play three ODIs in Australia on October 19, 23, and 25, followed by five T20Is from October 29 to November 8.
