Beirut, Nov 11 (UNI) Fifty-three people were killed and 99 others injured in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Lebanese Health Ministry said on Sunday.

“Over the past 24 hours, 53 people were killed and 99 civilians were injured as a result of Israeli bombings,” the ministry said in a statement.

This brings the total number of those killed since the start of the recent escalation between Israel and Lebanon to 3,186, and the number of injured to 14,078, the ministry added.

On Sunday morning, the Israeli air force struck a residential building in the Almat settlement, 15 kilometers from the resort town of Byblos in northern Lebanon, killing more than 20 people, including children. Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers attacked ambulance teams in the settlements of Deir Qanoun, Ras Al Ain and Ain Baal in northern Lebanon, killing five emergency medical technicians.

Since October 1, Israel has been conducting a ground operation against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon while continuing airstrikes. Despite losses, Hezbollah has been fighting Israeli troops on the ground and launching rockets across the border. Israel says its main objective is to create conditions for the return of 60,000 residents who fled shelling in the north.
