Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh – The sacred moon of Moharram has been sighted, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year from today, Friday. City Qazi Mufti Mushtaq Ali Nadwi confirmed the sighting after a meeting of the Ruhat-e-Hilal Committee.
Blessings for peace and brotherhood
On this significant occasion, City Qazi Nadwi extended heartfelt congratulations to all residents of Bhopal for the new Islamic year. During the committee meeting, prayers were offered for peace, well-being, justice, and brotherhood, setting a hopeful tone for the year ahead.
A month of remembrance and sacrifice
Moharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and signifies the start of the Hijri year. This year, the observance of Moharram is scheduled for July 6th. It is a month deeply associated with grief, patience, and remembrance of sacrifice, particularly commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
Preparations are already underway in various akhadas (traditional wrestling arenas/community centers) and Imambaras (Shia congregation halls) across the city. Arrangements are being made for majlis (religious gatherings) and processions, which are integral to the observance.
In anticipation of the large gatherings and processions, the administration has also heightened security measures. A meeting regarding Moharram preparations was convened by the Commissioner of Police yesterday, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful observance for all.
