ISBT tender sees no takers for the third time

  • Indore’s grand bus terminal still awaits a partner

Indore: For the third time, the Indore Development Authority (IDA) has floated a tender for the operation and maintenance of the newly constructed Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at MR-10 Kumedi. Despite its world-class infrastructure, no company has yet stepped forward.

Built at a cost of Rs 100 crore over 15 acres, the ISBT boasts air-conditioned facilities, over 40 terminals, metro connectivity, and capacity to handle 1,440 buses daily. Yet, previous tenders failed to attract interest. In an effort to draw bidders, IDA has revised key terms: the security deposit has been reduced from Rs 5 crore to Rs 3 crore, monthly lease lowered from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, and the triennial fee hike cut from 15% to 10%.

The pre-bid is scheduled for June 6, with bids opening on June 17.

Behind the lack of interest lies a more complex issue—political interference. Local power brokers and their alleged control over roadside vending and transport routes have deterred private players. Sources reveal fear of political dominance and muscle power is discouraging companies from investing.

Despite mounting pressure from the administration to launch operations, ISBT remains underutilized—risking becoming a white elephant unless a viable operator steps up soon.
