Islamabad, (UNI) An internet slowdown across Pakistan is expected to persist until October this year due to issues with submarine cables, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on Wednesday.
The ongoing slowdown in internet was mainly due to faults in two submarine cables, the PTA said in a statement.
Submarine cable AAE-1 has been repaired, which may improve internet experience, and a fault in SMW-4 submarine cable is likely to be repaired by early October 2024, the statement said.
The Wireless and Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan and the Pakistan Software Houses Association said internet slowdown and disruption have led to severe economic consequences for freelancers, information technology professionals and the broader digital economy.
