Insect found in mouthwash at JP Hospital

Bhopal: Even after the cough syrup tragedy that claimed over 25 children’s lives in Madhya Pradesh, concerns over the quality of medicines supplied in government hospitals continue to surface. Within just nine days of 2026, two cases of patients allegedly receiving substandard medicines have been reported from JP Hospital.

The first incident came to light on January 3, when a young man, Satish Sen, complained that he was given moldy medicine during treatment. A second case was reported on January 8, when another patient, Manish, alleged that he found an insect in a mouthwash provided by the hospital pharmacy.

Following these complaints, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Manish Sharma constituted a special team on Friday to thoroughly inspect the hospital’s entire medicine stock.

Meanwhile, health officials have claimed that the complaint may be false. Dr. Sharma stated that the stock of the medicine alleged to be moldy had already been exhausted in December. However, the hospital staff has taken the medicine strip from the complainant for testing. The patient has been assured that he will be informed once the laboratory report is received.
