Indore Water Tragedy : Mahila Cong blames for ‘cosmetic action’

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress president Reena Baurasi Setia has strongly criticised the state government’s response to the Bhagirathpura incident in Indore, describing it as mere “lip service” aimed at shielding those responsible for the deaths of 15 people. She alleged that the government acted only after Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, highlighted the issue on social media.

In a statement issued on Friday, Setia said the removal of the Additional Commissioner in charge of water supply and the transfer of the Superintending Engineer, as announced by State Government, was insulting to the system and inadequate given the gravity of the tragedy. She stressed that a transfer is an administrative process, not a punishment.

Setia urged the government to heed the advice of former Chief Minister Uma Bharti and ensure exemplary punishment for the guilty, warning that the current approach sends a dangerous message of impunity to officials and undermines public trust.
