- Hopes pinned on future corridor
Indore: Facing a sharp drop in ridership, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has revised the operational schedule for the Indore Metro. Starting Monday (June 23), trains will run every hour on weekdays between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and every 30 minutes on weekends from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The Indore Metro, which launched to much excitement, saw 1.5 lakh riders in its first week (June 1–7) when rides were free. However, once fares were introduced, ridership plummeted—dropping to 35,000 in the second week (with 75% discount) and 15,000 in the third week (50% discount).
In the fourth week (June 22–28), a reduced 25% discount is being offered, setting fares at Rs 15 for two stations and Rs 23–25 for longer journeys. Officials and passengers cite the short 6-km stretch through sparsely populated areas as the main reason for low usage.
Hopes now rest on 17.5-km Priority Corridor
