Indore Clears Diwali Mess Overnight, Upholds ‘Cleanest City’ Title

3 AM Mobilization: Safai Mitras Erase Firecracker Debris

Indore: India’s perennial cleanest city, Indore, once again demonstrated its commitment to sanitation excellence by orchestrating a massive, rapid cleanup operation to clear Diwali firecracker waste overnight. While citizens concluded their festivities around midnight, nearly 500 dedicated sanitation workers (Safai Mitras) and integrated waste management teams were mobilized at 3 AM, successfully ensuring the entire city was spotless by the early morning hours.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav emphasized the challenge posed by debris in dustbins and along roadsides, noting that these areas received special operational focus. The cleaning effort was strategically executed, prioritizing high-traffic and congested areas before moving efficiently into residential colonies and narrow lanes.

Tech and Manpower for Seamless Operation

The operation was technologically supported and manpower-intensive, involving various civic departments and external teams. Resources deployed included over 25 sweeping machines, 7 high-pressure jets, 2 JCBs, and approximately 50 garbage vehicles, along with NGO teams managing door-to-door collection. The city’s Integrated Command and Control Center provided real-time monitoring of all cleaning vehicles to ensure time-bound transfer from the Garbage Transfer Stations (GTS) to the processing sites.

Round-the-Clock Supervision

To maintain a high standard of work, senior officials, including Darogas, Assistant CSIs, Zonal Officers, and Additional Commissioners, were on the ground in their designated areas until dawn. This coordinated effort, also involving water, drainage, and electricity department seniors, reinforced Indore’s status, proving that its cleanliness ranking is a result of round-the-clock vigilance and strategic execution, mirroring the focused clean-up drives performed during festivals like Rangpanchami.
