IndiGo receives GST penalty order of Rs 14.59 lakh from UP tax authority

New Delhi, Dec 30 (UNI) InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the operator of airline IndiGo, has received a penalty order amounting to Rs 14.59 lakh from the Office of the Joint Commissioner, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, under the Goods and Services Tax framework.

Earlier on Tuesday, the airline received an assesment order from CGST department for a GST demand along interest and penalty amounting to Rs 458.26 cr.

In a regulatory disclosure filed with the stock exchanges under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, the company said the order pertains to the financial year 2021-22. The communication from the tax authority was received by the company on December 29, 2025.

According to the disclosure, the tax department has denied the input tax credit availed by the company and has raised a demand along with applicable interest and penalty. The total penalty imposed stands at ₹14,59,527.

InterGlobe Aviation stated that it believes the order passed by the authorities is erroneous. The company further said that it has a strong case on merits, supported by advice received from external tax advisors. Based on this assessment, the airline has decided to contest the order before the appropriate appellate authority.

The company clarified that the penalty order does not have any significant impact on its financial position, operations, or other activities.

The disclosure was signed by Neerja Sharma, Company Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer of InterGlobe Aviation Limited, and was submitted to both the National Stock Exchange of India Limited and BSE Limited for information and record.
