Nagpur, Aug 17 (UNI) An IndiGo pilot on Thursday collapsed and died moment before taking off to Pune from Nagpur’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar airport, officials said.
Captain Manoj Subramanyam (40) fell unconscious at around 12 AM in the security area near a boarding gate of the airport, the officials said.
He was immediately rushed to KIMS-Kingsway Hospital, where he died during treatment, said the officials.
Subramanyam was going to operate the airline’s Nagpur-Pune flight when he collapsed, the officials further said.
” Though the exact cause of his death could not be ascertained immediately, he died most probably of cardiac arrest, ” said hospital sources.
“We are saddened at the passing away of one of our pilots in Nagpur. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” the airline said in a statement.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the pilot had operated two flights on Wednesday in the Trivandrum-Pune-Nagpur sectors between 3 AM and 7 AM.
This is the third sudden death of pilots in two weeks. Two of the deceased were Indian pilots.
