India’s third triple-centurion act of 2025

Ahmedabad, Oct 3 (UNI) Test cricket is often about graft, resolve and moments etched in memory, and the first India–West Indies Test here at Narendra Modi Stadium added a fresh chapter to that tradition as three Indian batsmen – KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja – brought up centuries in the same innings, marking the third such instance for India in 2025.

Rahul, after years of frustration on home soil, finally found redemption. On 64.5 overs, he leaned into a Roston Chase delivery, nudged it past mid-wicket and raised his bat with a mix of relief and delight. It was his 11th Test hundred, but only his second at home- the last had come back in 2016. Helmet off, badge kissed, Rahul’s celebration told of a burden lifted after nearly a decade of waiting.

If Rahul’s ton was about relief, Jurel’s was pure delight. Having missed out against England earlier this year, the young wicketkeeper finally had his moment. On 116 overs, he stroked Chase through mid-on for four, raising his maiden Test hundred. His beaming smile and a military bat celebration summed up the joy of a young cricketer’s first taste of immortality. For India, it was also the third century by a designated wicket keeper this year – two from Rishabh Pant and now one from Jurel – the most in a calendar year for them.

Then came Jadeja, in the 125th over, moving back to Jomel Warrican and punching him wide of cover to bring up his 6th Test century. Out came the sword celebration, followed by a warm embrace with Washington Sundar. His innings, as effortless as it was authoritative, reinforced his stature as one of India’s most consistent Test allrounders.

This was the third time in the ongoing calendar year that India produced three centurions in a single innings – after Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Pant at Leeds against England, and Gill, Jadeja and Sundar at Manchester. Remarkably, India have now achieved this rare feat of three or more batsmen scoring hundreds in an innings four times in a single calendar year, the earlier instances being in 1979, 1986, and 2007.

As the Ahmedabad fans rose in applause, the sense was unmistakable: India had not just built a towering score, but also added a glittering entry in their statistical archives. For Rahul, Jurel, and Jadeja, it was an innings to remember; for Indian cricket, a year that continues to produce milestones of collective batting dominance.
