Los Angeles, Feb 12 (UNI) A new marketplace dedicated to adapting French scripted content for Asian audiences will debut at Mumbai’s Red Lorry Film Festival.
The French IP Market aims to connect French rights holders with buyers from India and Southeast Asia seeking to develop localized versions of film, television, animation and digital properties, Variety reports.
Backed by France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Institut français, the initiative will focus on in-person engagement through curated pitches, one-on-one meetings and case studies spotlighting successful adaptations. The model is designed to encourage direct conversations between sellers and regional buyers.
According to Variety, fifteen French companies will present their catalogs at the market, including Goodfellas Films, Le Pacte, Banijay Kids, MK2, La Belle Télé, France Films TV, Mediatoon, Matriochkas, Lukarn, PitStop Studio, Fayard, Robert Laffont, Habebo Studios, Maremako and Astier Pêcher. Together, they represent a wide range of cinema, television, animation and publishing properties with strong international credentials.
The launch comes amid rising demand in India and Southeast Asia for established intellectual properties that can be reimagined for local audiences. Distributors, broadcasters, streaming platforms and literary agents from across the region are expected to attend.
As part of its 2026 edition (March 13–15), the Red Lorry Film Festival will also spotlight French cinema through its “Rendezvous With French Cinema” section, featuring titles such as Case 137, Colours of Time, Nino and The Orphans.
Ashish Saksena, festival director of Red Lorry Film Festival and COO Cinemas at BookMyShow, said the initiative strengthens the event’s role as an industry platform for Asia. He highlighted France’s rich storytelling tradition and said the marketplace would facilitate meaningful collaborations and localized adaptations, as per Variety.
Mathieu Béjot, attaché for audiovisual, cinema and digital content at the French Institute in India, added that the partnership places French creators at the center of one of Asia’s fastest-growing content markets, fostering long-term creative and commercial ties.
The French IP Market marks another step in Red Lorry Film Festival’s ongoing expansion of its industry-driven programming.
