Bhopal: A remarkable initiative by the Electric Loco Shed in Itarsi under the Western Central Railway (WCR) has proven to be a significant step towards self-reliance. The team at the Itarsi Electric Loco Shed not only demonstrated exceptional use of available resources but also ensured a saving of lakhs of rupees for the department.
This innovative project was led by SSE Deepak Yadav, JE Anurag Badhkane, and technicians Nitin Patel and Dharmendra Choure from the SHW-5 section. Under their guidance, the team successfully repaired damaged motherboards, saving the Indian Railways an impressive amount of Rs 13,22,675. The cost of a replacement motherboard from AAL is Rs 18,685, and from Laxven, it’s Rs 29,500. The team’s efficient management, technical expertise, and resource optimization have made a significant contribution to the railway’s economy.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Kataria commended this effort, calling it a remarkable example of technical innovation and a testament to the commitment, dedication, and diligence of railway employees. Neeraj Kumar Sharma, Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Traction Rolling Stock), explained that the Itarsi shed is responsible for maintaining 269 three-phase electric locomotives, where speedometers display the current speed of the train to help the crew operate safely. Due to incorrect memory card installation, 65 speedometers (55 RRU make and 10 Laxven make) were damaged, but instead of purchasing new ones, the experienced technical team took an in-house repair initiative.
