Indian Embassy in Kathmandu arranging for safe return of stranded Indians in Nepal

Kathmandu/New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) Following the incessant rains and landslides in Nepal that have led to over 200 deaths, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu on Monday said it has received information of Indian nationals who are stranded in the Himalayan nation due to the inclement weather.

In an advisory, the Indian Embassy said that it is in touch with some of the Indian groups and is arranging for their safe return. It also said it is coordinating with the Nepali authorities to facilitate the evacuation of Indian citizens who are stranded.

“There has been widespread damage due to floods and landslides on account of record rainfall over the weekend. Our thoughts are with everyone affected,” it said.

The death toll from the rain-triggered floods and landslides in Nepal has risen to over 200. The disaster, since Thursday, has devastated various parts of the mountainous country, leading to widespread destruction.

According to Nepal Police, 26 people are still missing while rescue operations have saved 4,222 individuals. At least 127 people have been injured in the affected areas.

The damage to infrastructure has been extensive, with many roads blocked by landslides and floods, severely hampering transportation and rescue efforts.
