Berlin/New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) The Indian Embassy in Berlin, in collaboration with Indian National Day Celebration Committee (INDCC) and The Tagore Centre, organised a Bharat Parade at the iconic Brandenburg Gate to commemorate the 79th Independence Day of India.
Nearly 1,000 members of Indian community and friends of India joined the event.
The Indian Ambassador Ajit Gupte and Mrs. Priti Gupte were also present, the Indian Embassy said in a statement.
A central highlight of the programme was an impressive Mallakhamb demonstration, performed to ‘Jayastute Shree Mahamangale’ and accompanied by chants of ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki Jai’. This traditional Indian sport, combining strength, agility, and discipline, enthralled the audience.
The celebrations also featured a rich array of cultural performances, including Garba and Bhangra, which reflected the vibrancy and diversity of India’s cultural heritage.
In his address, Ambassador Gupte underlined the significant growth of the Indian diaspora in Germany and commended its contributions to strengthening bilateral relations.
Following the performances, a ‘Bharat Parade’ marched from Brandenburg Gate to the Sanchi Stupa at the Humboldt Forum. Patriotic songs and Indian music accompanied the march, creating an atmosphere of unity and festivity in the heart of Berlin.
This year’s celebrations hold special significance as they coincide with the 25th year of the India–Germany Strategic Partnership, reaffirming the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the statement said.
