New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) The Ministry of Defence inked a contract agreement worth Rs 659.47 crore for procurement of Night Sight (Image Intensifier) for 7.62 x 51mm Assault Rifle along with accessories for the Indian Army, here today.
The Night Sight will enable soldiers to fully exploit the longer effective range of the SIG 716 Assault Rifle.
These sights are capable of engaging targets up to an effective range of 500 metres, even under starlit conditions and provide a significant improvement over the existing Passive Night Sights (PNS).
The state-of-the-art night vision devices will significantly enhance soldiers’ effectiveness during night-time and low-light operations. The upgrade, part of the modernization of the SIG 716 assault rifles, will provide personnel with improved situational awareness, ensuring greater combat readiness and operational safety.
The new devices will allow troops to fully utilize the extended effective range of their rifles, giving them a tactical edge in diverse operational scenarios.
Additionally, the initiative is expected to support domestic defence industries, promoting innovation and the development of cutting-edge technology within the country.
This procurement, classified as a buy (Indian-IDDM) case with more than 51 percent indigenous content, is a major step towards Aatmanirbharta in Defence Manufacturing. The initiative will also benefit the MSMEs involved in manufacturing of components and supply of raw material. UNI PWS SS
