Hyderabad, Sep 7 (UNI) Indian Army columns have made substantial progress in the ongoing emergency response efforts in flood-affected areas of Andhra Pradesh.
In collaboration with the civil administration, the Indian Army completed the plugging of breach number 3, a critical task that will prevent further flooding and safeguard affected communities.
Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh visited the site on Saturday to assess the progress of the breach repair. He was thoroughly briefed by Lt. Colonel Amit, Column Commander, and the Officer Commanding the Engineers, who outlined the extensive measures taken to secure the breach and restore stability to the area.
Following directives from the Irrigation Minister, the civil administration is working to raise the embankment to a height of 10 feet—an essential step to prevent future breaches or overflows. The engineering task force is making steady progress in these efforts.
Meanwhile, a medical team has secured 160 KG of essential medicines for malaria prophylaxis and leptospirosis, coordinating with the General Government Medical Hospital. The Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) is en route to Ibrahimpatnam, where many villages are submerged and cut off. A medical camp is being established there to distribute medicines, while two mobile medical units will become operational in the coming hours to provide medical assistance and distribute medicines in the flooded areas.
The Indian Army will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. Ensuring the health and safety of citizens remains the top priority, with all necessary resources being mobilized to support the affected populations, a defence statement said on Saturday.
