Navi Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) India won the toss in an inconsequential match of the ODI WWC tournament against Bangladesh and elected to bowl first under overcast conditions at DY Patil Sports Academy here today.
Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s captain, said, “Because of the overcast conditions, we thought bowling would be a good decision. Uma Chetry is making her debut today, Richa is resting, and two more players – Kranti and Sneh Rana – are also taking rest. We have the self-belief to turn things around after three losses.”
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana commented on batting first, saying, “It’s kind of good for us because our bowlers have been doing well. We need to give a total to defend. Getting over the defeat against Sri Lanka was difficult, but we have to move on and play our A game. With the way our bowlers are bowling and the conditions, 230-plus can be a good total.”
Play was temporarily halted at 3.12 pm local time as heavy rain forced groundstaff to cover the pitch. The skies darkened quickly, and rain began lashing down, bringing the match to a pause.
