New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) India today welcomed the summit meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska to find a way out of the Ukraine conflict, and appreciated the progress made at the summit.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also said that the world wants to see an early end to the Ukraine conflict.
The statement reads:
“India welcomes the Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable.
“The way forward can only be through dialogue and diplomacy. The world wants to see an early end to the conflict in Ukraine.”
India has always been championing dialogue and diplomacy as the way out of the conflict, and has refused to take sides even when under great pressure from the West in 2023 to denounce Russia and cut ties with Moscow.
Notably, Putin and Trump met at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage yesterday, with the primary objective to discuss ways to end the Ukraine conflict, which had been ongoing for over three years.
While both sides described the talks as productive and constructive, no ceasefire or peace agreement was announced.
President Trump voiced optimism about the progress made, and indicated that a “Peace Agreement” might be the best way to end the war, rather than a ceasefire, according to reports.
