India-W storm into Kho Kho World Cup semis

New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) The India women’s kho kho team stormed into the semifinals of the 2025 Kho Kho World Cup with an emphatic 109-16 victory over Bangladesh at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Friday.

The dominant win, spearheaded by captain Priyanka Ingle, marked India’s fifth consecutive 100+ score in the tournament, further solidifying their status as favourites.

India’s commanding display was evident from the outset, with Turn 1 yielding a half-century of points. Veterans Nasreen Shaikh and Priyanka led the charge, preventing Bangladesh from gaining any momentum.

The dominance continued into Turn 2, highlighted by a remarkable Dream Run of 5 minutes and 36 seconds by Ingle, Ashwini Shinde, and Reshma Rathod. Their collective effort left Bangladesh reeling as the score read 56-8 by the halfway mark.

Turn 3 witnessed another masterclass, as India maintained their stranglehold on the game. Reshma Rathod’s spectacular sky dive brought up India’s century, pushing the score to an unassailable 106-8. The final turn saw India extend their lead further, wrapping up the match at 109-16.

India’s semifinal clash is scheduled for Saturday with the team riding high on confidence.

In other women’s quarterfinals, Uganda outclassed New Zealand 71-26, while South Africa edged past Kenya 51-46 in a nail-biting encounter. Nepal delivered a resounding victory over Iran, finishing with a score of 103-8.

In the men’s division, Iran demolished Kenya 86-18, and South Africa defeated England 58-38 to advance. Nepal completed the lineup with a dominant 67-18 win over Bangladesh.

The stage is now set for an action-packed semifinal round.
