New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) India and Singapore today launched an ambitious roadmap to take forward their ties, with cooperation in the areas of advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, sustainability, digitalisation, AI and space, as the two sides inked five MoUs.
During talks between PM Modi and visiting Singapore PM Lawrence Wong at Hyderabad House today, the two leaders also virtually inaugurated the JN PSA Mumbai — Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal, India’s largest single container terminal, built with Singapore’s collaboration.
PM Modi said in a post on X that trade and investment are important aspects of India-Singapore ties. “PM Wong and I discussed ways to deepen these linkages. Other topics included technology, semiconductors, defence, skill development, water resources, green shipping and more.”
He also said that India is delighted to welcome the Singapore leader to India, on his first visit as PM and also as it comes at a time when both nations mark 60 years of their diplomatic ties. ”Our talks covered ways to deepen the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” the PM said.
The Singapore PM said the MoUs inked will unlock fresh opportunities for both their businesses and peoples, “while keeping our partnership a source of stability, resilience, and shared prosperity for the future”.
The MoUs included:
*Joint Statement on the Roadmap for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore
* Memorandum of Understanding on Digital Asset Innovation between Reserve Bank of India and the Monetary Authority of Singapore
*Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of India and the Government of Republic of Singapore concerning Cooperation on a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor
*Memorandum of Understanding between Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) for Training, Research and Development in the field of Civil Aviation
*Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Republic of Singapore for Establishment of a National Center of Excellence for Skilling in Advanced Manufacturing in National Skill Training Institute, Chennai
*Memorandum of Understanding between Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre, Republic of India and Economic Development Board, Office for Space Technology and Industry, Republic of Singapore on Promoting Collaboration in the Space Sector.
Among the inauguration/Announcement were:
1) Joint Virtual Inauguration of the Phase-II of development of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) in Navi Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP).
2) Singapore’s membership of Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA).
PM Wong later called on President Droupadi Murmu:
“I thanked her for her support for strong Singapore-India ties. We reaffirmed our shared commitment to deepen cooperation across a wide range of areas as our two countries commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations.”
He also received call-ons from National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“Glad to meet India National Security Advisor Ajit Doval again— we last met last year during PM Modi’s visit to SG. We discussed recent geopolitical developments and their impact on global and regional stability.”
“Had a fruitful discussion with India’s Education Minister @dpradhanbjp on strengthening Singapore-India cooperation in education and skills development — a key pillar of our strong bilateral partnership.”
PM Wong said he looks forward to welcoming President Murmu and PM Modi to Singapore in the future.
“Thank you, Prime Minister @narendramodi, for the warm hospitality. I look forward to welcoming you and President Murmu to Singapore in the future.”
