Chengdu, Oct 26 (UNI) India recorded their best-ever showing at the Badminton Asia U17 and U15 Championships 2025 here today, clinching two gold medals through Shaina Manimuthu and Diksha Sudhakar in the girls’ singles events.
In the U15 final, Shaina overcame Japan’s Chiharu Tomita 21-14, 22-20, displaying composure in the closing stages of the second game to seal the title in 44 minutes. With the win, she became the fourth Indian to secure the U15 girls’ singles crown.
This was followed by an all-Indian U17 final, where Diksha Sudhakar outplayed Lakshya Rajesh 21-16, 21-9 in just 27 minutes to emerge as the first Indian girls’ singles champion in the U17 category.
With these results, India finished the tournament with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals. This is the first time since 2013 that India has returned with two gold medals from the continental age-group championship. That year, Siril Verma won the U15 boys’ singles title, while Chirag Shetty and MR Arjun claimed the U17 boys’ doubles crown.
Yesterday, Jagsher Singh Khanggura and the mixed doubles pair of Jangjeet Singh Kajla and Jananika Ramesh had secured bronze medals, rounding off a landmark campaign for the Indian contingent.
