New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday affirmed the strong and evolving partnership between India and Russia, emphasizing the need for their relations to reach new heights.
Speaking at the start of annual India-Russia summit on Friday, PM Modi addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin with a clear message: “India is on the side of peace and the world should return to peace,” underscoring India’s stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Welcoming President Putin to India during his two-day state visit, PM Modi highlighted the time-tested friendship between the two nations. In a symbolic gesture, he presented Putin with a copy of the Bhagavad Gita translated into Russian, noting, “The teachings of the Gita inspire millions worldwide.”
“This visit is very historical,” PM Modi said, praising Putin’s leadership, “You have fulfilled the ability of a leader’s farsightedness.” Modi reiterated India’s commitment to peace, stating, “We all have to walk the path of peace,” and emphasized, “India supports all attempts for restoration of peace.”
On the conflict in Ukraine, PM Modi was unequivocal: “India is not neutral; it is on the side of peace.” He called for an end to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, adding, “We support a peaceful solution to the conflict.”
President Putin, responding to Modi’s remarks, expressed gratitude for the invitation, saying, “Thankful to PM Modi for being invited.” He echoed the commitment to peace, stating, “On the issue of peace, both nations are together.” Putin also assured that Russia is working toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
The summit aims to further strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of defence, energy, and trade. The leaders are expected to discuss a range of issues including defence cooperation and expanding economic partnerships.
