India, Russia ties a vital pillar of regional and global stability: PM Modi to President Putin

Tianjin/New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had an excellent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Tianjin today and the two also discussed the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.

In a post on X, the PM said the India-Russia partnership is a vital pillar of regional and global stability, and that he is looking forward to welcoming him in India for the 23rd bilateral summit in December.

“Had an excellent meeting with President Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin. Discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in all sectors, including trade, fertilisers, space, security and culture.

“We exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. Our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership remains a vital pillar of regional and global stability.”

In his remarks at the bilateral, the PM said that it is a great pleasure to meet the Russian leader.

“I always feel that meeting you is a memorable meeting. We get an opportunity to exchange information on many things.”

He said the two have been in constant touch.

“There have been many high-level meetings between the two sides on a regular basis. 1.4 billion Indians are eagerly waiting for you for our 23rd Summit in December this year,” he said.

“This is a reflection of the depth and breadth of our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. India and Russia have always stood shoulder to shoulder even in the most difficult situations. Our close cooperation is important not only for the people of both countries, but also for global peace, stability, and prosperity,” he added.

On Ukraine, he said the two sides have been regularly discussing the Ukraine conflict.

“We welcome all the recent peace efforts. We hope that all parties will move forward constructively. A way must be found to end the conflict as soon as possible and establish lasting peace. This is the call of entire humanity.”

A readout of the meeting, said that the two leaders held a bilateral on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin, China.

The leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, including in the economic, financial, and energy sectors and expressed satisfaction with the sustained growth in bilateral ties in these areas.

The two leaders also discussed regional and global issues, including the latest developments concerning Ukraine.

Prime Minister reiterated his support for the recent initiatives that have been taken to address the conflict in Ukraine, and emphasized the need to expedite a cessation of the conflict, and find a durable peace settlement.

The two leaders reaffirmed their support for further strengthening of the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister conveyed to President Putin that he was looking forward to receiving him in India for the 23rd Annual Summit later this year.”
