India, Netherlands sign MoU to advance clean energy ambitions

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Stepping up the nation’s clean energy ambitions, the government on Friday signed an agreement with the Netherlands to build the national capacity in green energy and hydrogen research.

The contract between the University of Groningen, Netherlands, and 19 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) would facilitate faculty and student exchange, joint research, and knowledge sharing, according to a press statement by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) also announced the India-Netherlands Hydrogen Fellowship Programme on the sidelines of the inking of the MoU between the two nations.

The fellowship, open to eligible Indian researchers, is aimed at bolstering India’s deployment readiness in hydrogen technologies by offering them field experience of the advanced hydrogen ecosystem at the Dutch University. With a focus on making systems work together, ensuring safety, studying costs and viability, assessing long-term environmental impact, and building local capabilities, the programme is designed to contribute to national clean energy priorities.

Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, and Huib Mijnarends, Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India, officially launched the academic collaboration on Friday.

While launching the programme, Karandikar said that focused international collaboration and targeted capacity-building initiatives are critical for advancing hydrogen technologies from research to deployment, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors aligned with India’s clean energy transition goals.
