New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) India and the European union have reiterated their commitment to deepening cooperation in next-generation digital technologies, with a special focus on secure 6G communications and trusted telecom supply chains.
The renewed partnership was highlighted in the Leaders’ Statement issued during the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU College of Commissioners to India on February 27–28, 2025.
Both sides underlined the growing importance of advanced and emerging technologies under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), welcoming closer collaboration in telecommunications, digital infrastructure and global standards development.
The Joint Statement also welcomed cooperation between India’s Bharat 6G Alliance and the EU’s 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G SNS IA).
The collaboration aims to align research and innovation priorities for building secure, trusted and future-ready 6G networks.
Officials said the industry-led engagement is expected to support resilient and diversified telecom supply chains while promoting openness, interoperability and security-by-design in next-generation systems.
India and the EU further emphasised joint efforts in research and development, testing and standardisation of 6G technologies, reiterating their shared goal of shaping globally interoperable standards that foster innovation, competitiveness and inclusive digital growth, a statement said.
The partnership aligns with India’s national 6G vision led by the Department of Telecommunications and seeks to position the country as a key global contributor to 6G development, while ensuring secure, affordable and sustainable digital infrastructure.
The strengthened cooperation also reflects a broader commitment to building a trusted and resilient global digital ecosystem for citizens, industry and the international community.
The Joint India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda, endorsed at the 16th India-EU Summit in New Delhi on January 27, focuses on experience-sharing in robust and secure digital infrastructure and closer collaboration on trusted telecom ecosystems, including through the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) between Bharat 6G Alliance and the EU’s 6G SNS IA.
Bharat 6G Alliance brings together domestic industry, academia, national research institutions and standards bodies, supported by the Government of India to drive innovation in next-generation technologies.
Under the MoU, both alliances will explore cooperation on 6G vision, network architecture, use cases, identification of common priorities and joint efforts towards globally harmonised Beyond-5G and 6G standards, while encouraging collaboration among Indian and European R&D organisations and industry stakeholders.
