India Energy Stack Version 0.3 Released, Boost to Digital Public Infrastructure in Power Sector

New Delhi. The Ministry of Power has announced the release of Version 0.3 of the India Energy Stack (IES) Architecture and Strategy documents, marking a significant step towards building a digital public infrastructure for India’s power sector.

The India Energy Stack seeks to establish a common digital framework enabling utilities, system operators, market participants, innovators and consumers to securely exchange data and interact through shared standards and protocols. The initiative is aimed at enhancing coordination, transparency and efficiency across the energy ecosystem.

The updated Version 0.3 documents reflect ongoing efforts to design, test and refine the framework through phased development and stakeholder consultations. The IES initiative is being advanced through ecosystem collaboration, pilot implementations and an eventual nationwide rollout to support a more reliable, flexible and future-ready power system.

The framework is expected to particularly benefit consumers and prosumers those who both produce and consume electricity by giving them greater control and participation in the energy ecosystem. Through consent-based data sharing and interoperable digital services, consumers will be able to access improved energy services, compare offerings and participate in programmes such as demand response and EV charging. Prosumers, meanwhile, will find it easier to monetise surplus energy, verify transactions and engage in energy markets.

The review meeting for Version 0.3 was attended by Taskforce Chairman Dr Ram Sewak Sharma and several senior experts and officials from the energy and digital domains. The initiative is being steered by REC Limited as the nodal agency in close coordination with the Ministry of Power, with FSR Global serving as the knowledge partner. The India Energy Stack project is scheduled for completion by July 2026.
