India asks its nationals travelling to UK to remain vigilant in view of weekend violence

New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) India on Tuesday asked its nationals visiting the UK to stay vigilant and exercise due caution in view of the violence that erupted in that country over the weekend.

In an advisory, the Indian High Commission also asked Indians to follow the local news and advisories and avoid areas where protests are underway.

The advisory read:

“Indian travellers would be aware of recent disturbances in some parts of the United Kingdom. The High Commission of India in London is closely monitoring the situation. Visitors from India are advised to stay vigilant and exercise due caution while travelling in the UK. It is advisable to follow local news and advisories issued by local security agencies, and to avoid areas where protests are underway.

“In case of an emergency, the High Commission of India may be contacted”, it said.

In recent developments in the UK, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer convened an emergency security meeting on Monday following far-right riots that led to buildings set on fire and hotels housing asylum-seekers stormed by angry mobs.

Two hotels were targeted on Sunday night in what is considered the worst disorder the UK has seen in years.

Almost 150 people were arrested over the weekend, the U.K.’s National Police Chiefs’ Council said.

The violence followed a week of unrest after a stabbing attack that killed three young girls in the northern city of Southport.
