
New Delhi: The redeveloped headquarters of the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia Regional Office (WHO-SEARO) at Indraprastha Estate was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The inauguration took place on the occasion of the conclusion of the Second WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit. Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda, Minister of Ayush Prataprao Jadhav, senior officials from various ministries and WHO representatives were also present at the ceremony.
The redevelopment project has been executed by India’s Navratna public sector undertaking, NBCC (India) Limited. The original structure, built in 1962, has been transformed into a modern, sustainable complex aligned with global standards. The built-up area has increased fourfold to approximately 40,500 square metres, with seating capacity expanded to more than 600.
The new features state-of-the-art office spaces, advanced conference facilities, an auditorium, green energy solutions and comprehensive water conservation systems. Heritage artworks from the original building have been carefully preserved. The redeveloped headquarters stands as a symbol of India’s commitment to global public health and its growing leadership role in the international health sector.
