Ranchi, Nov 2 (UNI) The impact of cyclonic storm Montha has almost completely subsided across Jharkhand, bringing an end to the spell of continuous rainfall that persisted over the last three days.
The sky has now cleared, and the weather department has predicted dry conditions over most parts of the state during the next 24 hours.
According to the latest forecast, a few areas may experience light and brief drizzles, but the overall weather will remain pleasant. In Ranchi, a layer of morning fog was observed today, which gradually lifted as the day progressed. The city is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with daytime temperatures expected to rise by around 3 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may dip further in the coming days.
The Meteorological Department has stated that skies over Ranchi and adjoining districts will turn completely clear from November 3 onwards. Early morning fog and mist are expected to persist for the next week, accompanied by a noticeable increase in evening chill, prompting residents to start using warm clothing.
In several districts, including Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Giridih, and Bokaro, bright sunshine returned yesterday, while no significant rainfall was recorded in major parts of the state during the past 24 hours. Godda district received the highest rainfall at 80 mm, whereas parts of Sahebganj and Pakur still reported light showers.
The department further informed that Montha has now weakened and shifted towards eastern Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. As a result, some western districts such as Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, and Ranchi may witness light evening showers, but overall sunny conditions will prevail during the day. Cold winds in the evening have already led to a sharp drop in temperatures, with the mercury dipping rapidly after 4 p.m.
The minimum temperature across Jharkhand is expected to fall by another 2-3 degrees Celsius in the coming days, marking the formal onset of the winter season.
Historical data show a steady increase in cold intensity during November in recent years. In 2020, Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 10.1 degrees Celsius on November 1, while in 2024, it dropped to 10.6 degrees Celsius on the same date.
