New Delhi, Dec 17 (UNI) In a short time, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) has worked towards enhancing country’s collective capability to tackle cybercrimes and develop effective coordination among all law enforcement agencies.
In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has stated that I4C was set up as an attached office of the MHA from July 1, 2024, as it focuses on tackling citizens-centric cybercrime.
The I4C also works to improve coordination among various law enforcement agencies and the stakeholders, capacity building and cybercrime awareness.
It was on January 17, earlier this year, a memorandum of understanding was signed by I4C, MHA and the Department of Homeland Security, USA to strengthen cooperation and capacity building in cybercrime investigations.
The minister also said that ‘Samanvaya Platform’ has been made operational to serve as an Management Information System (MIS) platform, data repository and a coordination platform for LEAs for cybercrime data sharing and analytics.
It provides analytics-based interstate linkages of crimes and criminals, involved in cybercrime complaints in various states/UTs, he added.
The minister has shared that the module ‘Pratibimb’ maps locations of criminals and crime infrastructure on a map to give visibility to jurisdictional officers.
Kumar has mentioned that the module also facilitates seeking and receiving of techno-legal assistance by the different LEAs from the I4C and other SMEs.
“It has led to arrest of 16,840 accused and 1,05,129 cyber investigation assistance request,” he added.
In the reply , he also mentioned the ‘Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System’ (CFCFRMS), under I4C, that was launched in 2021, with the purpose of reporting financial frauds and stop siphoning off funds.
Till October 31, an amount of more than Rs. 7,130 crore has been saved in more than 23.02 lakh complaints, as per the minister.
He said that a state-of-the-art, Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC) has been established at I4C where representatives of major banks, financial intermediaries, payment aggregators, telecom service providers, IT intermediaries and representatives of states/UTs LEAs work together for immediate action and seamless cooperation.
More than 11.14 lakh SIM cards and 2.96 lakh IMEIs as reported by police authorities have been blocked by Government of India, up to October 31.
The MHA has released financial assistance to the tune of Rs 132.93 crore under the ‘Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC)’ Scheme to states/UTs for their capacity building.
The Home Ministry had established I4C as a scheme in the year 2018 to evolve a framework and ecosystem for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of cybercrime in the country.
