Bhopal: A major political shift was witnessed in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday when hundreds of workers from the Gwalior region abandoned the BJP and BSP to join the Congress. The historic development took place at the Pradesh Congress office in Bhopal in the presence of State Congress President Jitu Patwari, where all new entrants formally took membership.
The group, led by senior Gwalior leader Saheb Singh Gurjar, accused the BJP and BSP of betraying the people. They alleged that farmers, youth and the poor had been consistently neglected, while promises were repeatedly broken. They declared that their faith now lay with the Congress, its struggle, and its trustworthy leadership.
Patwari’s Address
Welcoming the new members, Jitu Patwari said that the workers from Gwalior had infused new strength into the Congress. He remarked, “This is not merely about switching parties; it is a pledge to give the state a new direction. The disillusionment with BJP and BSP shows that the people are ready for change. The countdown for the Mohan Yadav government has already begun.”
Rising Influence of Congress
Gwalior has long been regarded as a stronghold of the BJP and BSP. However, this development demonstrates that the base of both parties is weakening. The entry of hundreds of workers into the Congress has altered the political atmosphere of the state, signalling that the public is increasingly rallying behind the Congress.
