Hundreds of engineering students switch to Computer Science

  • Tech rush in MP Colleges

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh’s engineering students are making a clear statement about future career priorities- Computer Science reigns supreme. This year, nearly 300 second-year students utilized the branch change facility offered by state technical universities, with the vast majority prioritizing a switch to the high-demand tech field.

This branch reassignment initiative, implemented across institutions like Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV) and Barkatullah University (BU), allowed students to align their studies with their professional aspirations. The goal is to provide students with an academic path that matches their interest and strengthens their employment prospects.

Applications were processed based on merit and seat availability. For instance, at BUIT, a student successfully moved from IT to Computer Science, reflecting the discipline’s immense popularity. Other shifts included Electronics to IT and Mechanical to Electrical.

The process saw an extended application deadline due to a delay in results, which allowed around 100 additional students to apply for changes in their branch or college. Educational experts laud this facility as a meaningful step towards boosting student engagement and reinforcing the technical education system in line with current industry demands.
