Pune’s National Institute of Virology (AIV) confirmed the discovery of Gujarat Chandipura virus last month (July 17). This virus has been confirmed in a person who came to Bhopal from Gujarat, the sample has been sent for testing.
This virus has killed 15 people so far. This virus has started scaring everyone rapidly. Let’s know what this virus is, how to identify its symptoms. Which people are more at risk from this virus and what are its treatments? Also, what do experts have to say about this? Chandipura virus CHPV is a virus of the Rhabdoviridae family. It also includes other members like Lyssavirus that causes rabies. Several species of sandflies such as Phlebotomine sandflies and Phlebotomus papatasi, and some mosquito species such as Aedes aegypti are considered to be the carriers of CHPV. This virus is found in the salivary glands of these insects.
According to experts, Chandipura virus infection is also seen due to seasonal changes. Because, the number of flies increases in this season. Apart from this, cow dung paint is used in many kutcha houses or cow dung cakes on which flying flies hover rapidly and cause the spread of this virus.
Preventive measures
– For prevention, keep the house and the surroundings clean. If there is dirt, the risk of mosquitoes and flies will increase.
– Avoid sandflies, that is, flying, blood sucking, skin biting mosquitoes and flies.
– For protection, wear full sleeve clothes.
– Use a mosquito net to protect yourself from mosquitoes at home.
– Keep food items covered at home.
– Include foods rich in vitamin C in your diet.
Cases so far
So far a total of 29 cases of this virus have been reported in India. Out of 29 cases, 26 are from Gujarat, 2 from Rajasthan and 1 case is from Madhya Pradesh.

High fever (up to 104)

Headache
Difficulty in breathing
Symptoms like bleeding and anemia can also be seen.
Reason for spreading the virus
CHPV infection spreads due to the bite of a mosquito called sandflies. The risk of this is highest in children below 15 years of age. No vaccine has been made for Chandipura virus so far, but you can start treatment in time as soon as the symptoms of this virus appear. The elderly and children are most at risk from this virus. Children and elderly should stay away from dirt and take care of their diet.
