Shillong, Sep 1 (UNI) Meghalaya police will be filing a charge sheet against the prime accused in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman and Sonam’s husband, at Sohra in May this year, in a couple of days, Director General of Police, Idashisha Nongrang said today.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya police have arrested eight people including Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of Raja, and her alleged paramour Raj Kushwaha.
“The charge sheet is being finalised by the investigation officials and would be submitted in the
next couple of days,” Nongrang told UNI.
Besides Sonam and Raj Kushwaha, the SIT have also arrested – Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi and Vishal Singh Chauhan – for allegedly executed the plan masterminded by Sonam and Raj.
The newly-married couple from Indore was on a honeymoon trip to Sohra, where Raja was killed
by assailants brought in from outside the state at the behest of Sonam, police said.
Nongrang said supplementary charge sheet would be filed against the other three other co-accused, property dealer Silome James, Lokendra Tomar, the owner of the building where Sonam was hiding after the murder of Raja, and security guard Balbir Ahirbar.
James, Tomar and Ahirbar, arrested on charges of destruction and concealment of evidence in connection with the murder of Raja, are currently on bail.
Supplementary charge sheet will be submitted against the other accused, once we get all the material evidence from Indore,” the DGP said.
The SIT with the assistance of Madhya Pradesh police have gathered “substantial evidences” from Madhya Pradesh, apart from the statements of the accused individuals.
Some of the evidence included machetes (the murder weapon,) pistol, cash, jewellery, laptop, pen drive, mobile phones while some items were allegedly destroyed by the accused.
Moreover, the police have the confessional statements of some of the accused recorded before
a magistrate, however, two accused – Akash and Anand – refused to record their statements exercising their legal right.
