New Delhi, March 1 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu will formally launch a new welfare initiative to provide two free LPG cylinders annually to all ration card-holding families in the national capital.
The scheme will ensure that beneficiaries receive the benefit on the occasions of Holi and Diwali each year.
According to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the financial assistance under the scheme will be transferred through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
An amount equivalent to the prevailing market price of one LPG cylinder will be credited directly into the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the head of the family in whose name the ration card has been issued.
The scheme is expected to cover around 15.5 lakh (1.55 million) ration card-holding families across Delhi.
The government said the initiative aims to reduce the financial burden of cooking fuel expenses on economically weaker sections and help families celebrate major festivals with dignity and comfort.
Officials stated that necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth implementation and timely transfer of funds to eligible beneficiaries.
