New Delhi, (UNI) Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump and the people of the two nations on the landmark India-US trade deal.
Goyal posted his reaction on X, after the telephone talks between PM Modi and President Trump on Monday night, with the latter announcing the trade deal, and the US slashing its tariffs on India to 18 per cent from a high of 50 per cent.
Goyal, who has been one of the main persons negotiating the trade deal, said the trade deal is “a historic turning point that will reshape India–U.S. relations”.
“Congratulations to Prime Minister @NarendraModi ji and President @RealDonaldTrump, as well as to the people of India and the United States, on the landmark trade agreement. This reflects the power of two like-minded, fair-trading democracies working together for shared prosperity.
“Grateful to PM @NarendraModi ji and President @realDonaldTrump for their visionary and decisive leadership, and strong commitment to strengthening India–U.S. ties.
“This unlocks the power of two large democracies working together for the shared prosperity of their people. Both India and US are natural allies and our partnership will co-create technologies, co-develop solutions, and work together for peace, growth, and a brighter future for India and US.
“This agreement unlocks unprecedented opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers to Make in India for the world, Design in India for the world, and Innovate in India for the world. It will help India get technology from the US.
“It is not just a trade deal – it is a historic turning point that will reshape India–U.S. relations and accelerate our journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”
The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) welcomed President Donald Trump’s announcement of the trade deal, following his conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying it reaffirms their shared commitment to deepen the U.S.–India economic partnership and advance a bilateral trade agreement.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, in a post on X, welcomed the trade deal.
“US and India are world’s largest democracies. Both countries are natural allies. Together, India and US have huge potential to work for peace and development. US and India have complementary strengths. Both countries can co-create technologies and co-develop solutions that will benefit the world. Trade deal between US and India will lead to brighter future for both countries. India-US Trade deal is a win-win deal. Citizens and industries of both countries will benefit greatly from this deal.”
