New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) Following the latest allegations made by US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research, the Congress on Tuesday said that the party will launch a nation-wide agitation on August 22 to demand the removal of SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch and a JPC inquiry into the Adani issue.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal said, “Today, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge convened a meeting of the Congress party’s top leaders, including general secretaries, state in-charges, and state presidents. The meeting was also attended by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. We discussed the biggest scam that has happened in the country, i.e the Hindenburg revelations and the scam related to Adani and SEBI.”
He said, “The party unanimously decided to have a nationwide agitation on issue demanding two things – JPC inquiry on Adani mega scam in which the Prime Minister is fully involved and in which the financial market regulation has now been found to have been severely compromised and removal of SEBI Chairperson”.
Venugopal said, “In the meeting it was decided that on August, 22, there will be a massive national level agitation. Thousands of our party workers will gherao the ED offices in the states”.
Moreover, the party also reiterated its demand on a nationwide caste census from the government without any delay and declaring Wayanad landslide disasters as a national disaster.
The Congress general secretary said that the meeting called upon the Government of India to take all possible steps to ensure that targeted attacks on religious minorities and their places of worship in Bangladesh are stopped and to ensure that they are enabled to lead a life of security, dignity and harmony.
Earlier, the Congress President too put up a statement on his social media handle X with regard to the crucial meeting, in which he said that, the party discussed organisational matters and various issues of national importance for election preparedness.
“The shocking revelations of nexus between SEBI and Adani needs to a thorough investigation. The money of small investors in the stock market can’t be jeopardised. Modi Govt must immediately seek the resignation of SEBI chairperson and constitute a JPC in this regard,” Kharge said in his post.
Kharge said that the party also demanded from the government on holding of caste census.
He further added that the party would continue its fight in demanding legal guarantee of MSP for farmers, besides, scrapping of the Agnipath scheme.
