Himachal youth Vikas Panwar succeeds in UPSC on first attempt, achieves 159th rank

Shimla, March 7 (UNI) In an inspiring achievement for Himachal Pradesh, 22-year-old Vikas Panwar from Kupvi in Shimla district has secured 159th rank in the union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination, clearing the prestigious exam in his very first attempt.

Panwar completed his schooling at DAV School, New Shimla, where he consistently excelled academically and emerged as a topper in both Class 10 and Class 12. He later pursued a BA (Honours) in Political Science from Hindu College, Delhi University.

His father, Chhatar Singh, is currently serving as Principal in a state government school. Earlier, he also worked in the Panchayati Raj Department and as an Income Tax Inspector.

Interestingly, this is not Panwar’s first major achievement. Before cracking the civil services examination, he had won Rs50 lakh on the popular quiz show “Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)” in November 2025, showcasing his sharp intellect and knowledge on a national platform.

Panwar’s remarkable journey from a quiz show winner to a successful UPSC candidate has become a source of pride and inspiration for the people of Himachal Pradesh, especially aspiring civil servants from rural areas.
