Himachal Assembly’s Winter Session may begin in November-end

Dharamshala, Nov 4 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said that the Winter Session of the State Legislative Assembly, traditionally held at Tapovan in Dharamshala, is likely to be convened in the last week of November this year, instead of in December.

“The change is being considered to ensure that the session does not coincide with the peak tourist season in December, which could inconvenience visitors and local businesses,” he said yesterday.

Pathania was addressing participants as the chief guest on the second day of the four-day Federation Cup Classic and Equipped Powerlifting Championship 2025 at Rait. Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania was also present on the occasion.

The Speaker said that the upcoming winter session at Tapovan is expected to have eight sittings, making it the longest winter session ever held there. He praised the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly as one of the best-performing legislative institutions in the country, emphasizing that constructive debate and dialogue strengthen democratic institutions and enable meaningful economic and social progress.

Highlighting the importance of positive and reasoned discussions, Pathania said, “Such exchanges enhance the credibility of both individuals and institutions.”

Reflecting on Himachal’s democratic legacy, he noted that the first Presiding Officers’ Conference was held in Shimla in 1925, marking a historic milestone in India’s democratic journey.

He also mentioned that Vithalbhai Patel, a distinguished leader, was elected as the Chairman of the Central Legislative Council from Himachal Pradesh.

Expressing pride, Pathania said the Himachal Pradesh Assembly is the first paperless legislature in the country. He lauded the people of Himachal for their patriotism and dedication to the nation and said, “Continuous efforts are being made to enhance efficiency and transparency in legislative functioning.”

He added that young legislators are being encouraged to contribute ideas, ensuring that governance and policymaking focus on improving the lives of all citizens, especially the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society.
